Byron Bay Cookie Company (BBCC) has won the Regional Exporter of the Year award in the prestigious 2006 Premier's NSW Export Awards awarded at a gala dinner in Sydney. The Australian Institute of Export acknowledges the best exporters in a range of categories annually in every state and territory and BBCC beat a field of over 90 entrants to take out the award. This is the first time in the 50 year award history that a Northern Rivers company has won the Regional Exporter award.
"This award goes to the employees of Byron Bay Cookie Company" says Richard Raffaelli, General Manager. "Understanding the needs of the international markets, actually getting your product on shelf and building the brand internationally requires hard work and dedication from everyone involved from the bakers in the bakehouse to senior management. Winning the award now formally recognises the team's expertise and commitment" continues Raffaelli.
Having successfully created a niche market for gourmet cookies in Australia BBCC is replicating their success in overseas markets based on the same core values of gourmet indulgence, taste, quality Australian ingredients and distinctive packaging.
Currently exporting to the UK, Europe, Middle East and Japan, BBCC continues to identify opportunities to introduce the rich tastes of their cookies and the unique flavours of Australia to the rest of the world. They will begin exporting to the North American market at the end of the year.
"It's very rewarding when locals proudly contact us with stories and photos of how they saw cookies from their home town in countries throughout Europe and as far flung as Andorra and Russia " comments Raffaelli.
