Highest International Certification achieved by Byron Bay Cookie Company
Byron Bay Cookie Company (BBCC) was recently accredited with the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Food Technical Standard. This makes BBCC now one of only approximately 14 companies in Australia to have the BRC accreditation and the only company certified in the bakery sector. As well as obtaining this prestigious benchmark for quality; BBCC received the highest possible rating during the auditing process.
Responding to industry needs the BRC developed and introduced the BRC Food Technical Standard in 1998 to be used to evaluate manufacturers of retail food products.
Whilst primarily developed for the UK and EU markets needs, this Standard has became invaluable to other organisations across the industry. It is regarded as the benchmark for best practice in the food industry. This and its use outside the UK has seen it evolve into a Global Standard used not just to assess retailer suppliers, but as a framework upon which many companies have based their supplier assessment programmes and manufacture of some branded products.
The majority of UK, and many European and Global retailers will only consider business with suppliers who have gained certification to the appropriate BRC Global Standard.
"It had become a requirement from some of our major UK customers such as Harvey Nichols, John Lewis and Waitrose to be BRC certified.Whilst we've had the HACCP accreditation for a number of years, BRC was the next major milestone in achieving certification for food manufacturing excellence" says Richard Raffaelli, General Manager.
"BRC is one of the toughest standards in the world to achieve and the auditing process was stringent. The team worked exceptionally hard to achieve the accreditation and this certification certainly recognises the entire team's dedication and commitment to continued excellence in food manufacturing for our local and international markets" continues Richard.
